"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10).
Would that everyone could rightly estimate the precious gift our heavenly Father has made to our world. The disciples felt that they could not express the love of Christ. They could only say, "Herein is love." The entire universe gives expression to this love and to God's unbounded benevolence...Christ came to save, not to destroy. The apostles never touched this theme without their hearts glowing with the inspiration of the matchless love of the Saviour. The apostle John cannot find words to express his feelings. He exclaims, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not" (1 John 3:1). How much the Father loved us we can never compute. There is no standard with which to compare it (1MCP 249.4).
I remember a moment in my life when my faith was truly on the line. I had to decide: would I give my all to God, or walk away completely? It was one of the hardest times I've ever faced. In the rawness of my pain and anger, I cried out to God with all my heart, desperate for an answer. What happened next was nothing short of incredible. An overwhelming, unexplainable sense of love washed over me-so real, so powerful, that words still fail to capture it. In that moment, I knew without a doubt that God was real, and He was near. The situation that had once seemed so big, so painful, suddenly felt small and insignificant. Could it be that what we truly need in life is love-not just any love, but God's abiding love?
