It appears as though there is a hidden agenda to corrupt young minds today. I am baffled by what I witness in several school settings. Often children are allowed to do just as they please. Many are allowed to eat often throughout the day, use phones in the classroom, and dress scantily and provocatively. Even self-directed student lessons on ipads are taught in game settings which further strengthen the appeal for video gaming. It is also evident that the tendency in pedagogy is toward superstition, fiction and spiritualism. So, who should be responsible for what transpires in the lives of children and youth?
“The youth are expected to read “stories of theft, murder, and every other species of crime, [and] are led to devise means by which they could improve upon the criminal’s methods, and escape detection. Foul publications assist in perfecting the education of the youth in the way that leads to perdition. The youth of our cities breathe in the tainted polluted atmosphere of crime; the evil influence is then communicated to the country and the whole community becomes contaminated” (Lift Him Up, p. 353). Like a whirlwind spiritualistic themes have taken over literary materials. The majority of the books read by or to children in many schools include things about the spirit world, and consist of no real-life application to the lives of the children.
What else might your child be exposed to in a public school? What about the corrupting fashion? The body is very much on display with tattoos and piercings, and the wearing of clothes that leave areas of the body exposed that ought to be covered. Temptation is rife to make themselves objects of attraction being allowed to wear any clothing of choice in various schools.
When there is no restraint in children and they are allowed to do as they please, and no discipline is administered, this can contribute to mental health issues. When children lack structure and expectation, they are likely to struggle to regulate their emotions, and tend to have difficulties coping with life issues. By impulsivity they may govern their lives and this can tend to socially unacceptable and dangerous behaviors. Such children are also prone to have anxiety because of a lack of stability and predictability in the environment (https://www.npr.org).
Whether in diet, phone usage, entertainment or other aspects of the lives of children and youth, “it is the work of the parents to restrain and guide and control. They cannot commit a worse evil than to permit their children to gratify all their childish wishes and fancies, and leave them to follow their own inclinations; they cannot do them a greater wrong than to leave upon their minds the impression that they are to live to please and amuse themselves, to choose their own ways and find their own pleasure” (Child Guidance, p. 223).
Parents cannot control what happens in an entire school, but should become more cognizant of what happens in their children’s classrooms, and encourage self-control for optimal living. Children are in desperate need of guidance, for “there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Jesus is willing to give guidance to best direct these young ones with delicate minds. Let Him be your guide.
